Introduction
Video above showing Tecdur Switchable Glass in a recently completed Bifold Door project by one of our installation partners. Tecdur provided our switchable privacy glass custom made to fit into a bifold door system along with shaped Tecdur Privacy to fit into the triangular panels above, giving the client total control of when they would like privacy and when they would like to look out into their garden. A great application for this technology and one that is becoming more and more common.
For this particular project we used our Tecdur Privacy Dark, which is a grey PDLC interlayer instead of the standard white. We at Tecdur recommend this for external application, as it reduces glare from sunlight. Tecdur switchable glass was constructed as a double glazed unit with low-e glass to the external face to provide the necessary insulation in the home. The finished product is a wonderful focal point in the room, opening up the space to outside and providing the “WOW factor” when having guests over.
This type of project can be completed as a new project with a bifold installation along with Tecdur Switchable Privacy Glass, or as an upgrade to existing bifold door system, where Tecdur can manufacture glazed units to replace existing. Please get in touch for a quote for your project

Frequently asked Questions
Our privacy glass works by utilising advanced PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film. When an electrical current is applied, the liquid crystal molecules align, allowing light to pass through, making the glass transparent. When the current is switched off, the molecules mis-align, causing the glass to turn opaque or translucent, providing privacy.
