How Do Security Glass Windows Work?
Security glass windows typically use a laminated build-up consisting of multiple glass layers bonded with specialist interlayers.
When impacted, the interlayer holds the fragments together and absorbs energy, preventing the glass from shattering into an open void.
Higher-rated systems are engineered to withstand repeated heavy impacts, including axe strikes in higher EN 356 classifications.
Even when visibly cracked, the glazing continues to function as a barrier.

EN 356 (Anti-Bandit Glass)
EN 356 classifies resistance levels from P1A to P8B.
Lower classifications use steel ball drop testing, while P6B to P8B require the glazing to withstand multiple axe strikes before an aperture can be formed.

- P6B to P8B – repeated axe strike resistance
LPS 1270
LPS 1270 was developed by the Loss Prevention Certification Board to simulate realistic manual attack scenarios.
Ratings range from SR1 to SR6 depending on resistance time and tools used.
